17th Annual Brenner Children’s Hospital Toy Run

Toy Ride

17th Annual Brenner Children’s Hospital Toy Run. A fully escorted ride from Greensboro Harley-Davidson to Brenner Children’s Hospital at Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem in an effort to collect toys and raise additional funds for the Children’s Hospital. Not only does it help benefit the children during Christmas time, but all throughout the year.

This Toy Run continuously furnishes the play rooms, allows children to take toys to play with in their rooms, and to take toys home with them. “It’s not just Christmas, it’s all year long.” says Beth Smith, Child Life Specialist at Brenner Children’s Hospital. She explains that it’s not Christmas until the motorcycles arrive at the Hospital!

Heaven is for Real the Movie

Image

Looking for a great movie to watch over the Easter Holy Days? Then you may want to see Heaven is for Real the Movie. Heaven Is for Real is the true story of a four-year old son of a small town Nebraska pastor who experienced heaven during emergency surgery. He talks about looking down to see the doctor operating and his dad praying in the waiting room. The family didn’t know what to believe but soon the evidence was clear.

In heaven, Colton met his miscarried sister whom no one ever had told him about and his great-grandfather who died 30 years before Colton was born. He shared impossible-to-know details about each. Colton went on to describe the horse that only Jesus could ride, about how “really big” God and his chair are, and how the Holy Spirit “shoots down power” from heaven to help us.

Told by the Colton’s father often in Colton’s own words, the disarmingly simple message is that heaven is a real place, Jesus really loves children, and to be ready … there is a coming last battle. ~Ray Publishing Reviewsynopsis

The Burpos are the perfect picture of a small-town Americana family: mom and dad, daughter and son. Young Colton and his dad are inseparable until an illness lands Colton in the hospital. Fearing they will lose their son, the parents cry out to God to spare him.

While Colton’s amazing recovery should lead his family back to normalcy, they quickly discover nothing will ever be the same again. With childlike innocence, Colton begins talking about having visited Heaven and his incredible experiences there … including meeting family members he never knew about.

Based on the beloved book, HEAVEN IS FOR REAL tells one family’s story about Heaven and the impact it has on their community … and the world.

ABOUT THE BURPOS

Todd Burpo is the pastor of Crossroads Wesleyan Church in Imperial, Nebraska (Population: 2,122), where his sermons are broadcast every Sunday via the local radio station. He is also the chaplain for the Nebraska State Volunteer Firefighter’s Association. Todd graduated from Oklahoma Wesleyan University in 1991 summa cum laude with a BA in Theology. He was ordained in 1994.

Todd and his wife Sonja, who is a children’s minister, busy pastor’s wife, mom, and office manager at a local realtor, are the parents of Colton, now an active teenager; Cassie, his older sister; and Colby, his younger brother. Brandon relapsed on June 14, 2013 after being sick for weeks. At his 9 month checkup an xray discovered that the cancer had spread to his lungs and chest wall. The tumors were multiple and too extensive for surgery. He was given 6 months to 1 year at best then with only a 7% chance of a cure. After enduring more IV chemo treatments and radiation, his body had enough and it was beginning to cause more harm than good. He is currently receiving Hospice care at home and holistic nutritional therapy in hopes that he can get strong enough and we can find another treatment somewhere else soon. We have been fortunate until this year that insurance paid for his care, but 2014 is different, and all of the holistic therapy has to be paid for by us. A fundraising effort is underway that  we hope can open up new avenues for treatment that we haven’t been able to even consider before!
Your prayers and support are appreciated! ~April
