Officials said 20 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed due to a large crack running down its center in Buncombe County.

The road is closed from Milepost 375 to Milepost 355 at N.C. 128 near Mount Mitchell State Park.

The crack is about 6’ deep and 100’ long, officials said.

Park rangers believe it opened up because of the recent amounts of rain.

The bank below the roadway is also starting to slide.

“Safety for visitors and the public, we’re not sure how much more this is (going to) move or if we’re (going to) lose the whole surface up here. And then further we’ve had maintenance supervisors out here today on site. We’ve got engineers coming in to do an assessment.”

Officials are not sure when the Parkway will reopen.

July is typically the second-busiest month for the Parkway.

Warrior Dash is coming to North Carolina

warriordashThis event is not in the Triad, but I have had several people that have inquired about this event so here it is.  The event takes place in Historic Rural Hill, Not to be confused with Historic Rural Hall.

Warrior Dash is the ultimate event for thrill-seeking athletes.

This 5k race is held on the most demanding and unique terrain from around the world. Participants will take on intense obstacles, and celebrate their feat with music, beer, and muddy shorts!

Dash with a purpose. Dash for the kids of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®.

http://www.stjude.org/

Since opening 50 years ago, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has changed the way the world treats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. No family ever pays St. Jude for the care their child receives and, for every child treated, thousands more have been saved worldwide through St. Jude discoveries.

If you become a St. Jude Warrior, your fundraising will not only inspire hope in the children who need it most. You’ll earn awesome prizes along the way!

Raise $100 – Wear a cool St. Jude bandana on dash day.
Raise $300 – Gain access to the St. Jude Warrior tent for everything you’ll need on dash day:
