About

We seek to achieve our vision by serving, supporting and strengthening military warriors, families, leaders, chaplains and caregivers, and wounded warriors through offering training, services and resources which promote resiliency and relational health throughout the deployment cycle. These services include retreats, counseling professionals and print and media resources.

Heal Our Heroes Creed: We served our country together, therefore we can help heal each other.

Heal Our Heroes Mission: In an outdoor setting, we facilitate healing for our military through hunting, clay target shooting, hiking, fishing, small lake boating, campfires and group discussions. In this environment we seek our Creator, and look to chaplains and mentors to provide emotional and mental healing, renewal, rebuilding of relationships and renewed purpose to those we serve.

Heal Our Heroes seeks to build long lasting relationships with those we serve. Our veteran, mentor support groups see the individual and not the disability; seeking opportunities to open dialogue, share experiences and offer hope.

Heal Our Heroes will provide other printed resources “Combat Trauma Healing Manual” as well as network with other service providers to assist in more complex issues of  Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) and Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI).

Heal Our Heroes when possible will provide these opportunities free of charge through available scholarships.

Heal Our Heroes will sponsor a few campaigns to get the local communities involved and to raise money for scholarships. We are sponsoring the 1st Annual High Point Military Appreciation Day September 13th at Festival Park.

Heal Our Heroes is organized exclusively for charitable purposes.

Heal Our Heroes  is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3).

New facilities at Triad Park nearing completion

Construction crews are putting the finishing touches on additions to Triad Park, including an amphitheater and disc golf course.park-circle-hole4Mike Anderson, parks and recreation director for Forsyth County, said most of the work should be completed by the end of January.

“Construction will be finalized within 30 days, and then we will turn it over to the park,” said Page Kluttz, vice president of Hodgin Construction Co.

The new facilities are expected to be available to the public in the spring, Anderson said, though some could open in late winter.

The 426-acre Triad Park spans portions of Forsyth and Guilford counties near Kernersville and Colfax.

The latest additions to the park are near the new Carolina Field of Honor, a veterans memorial constructed by the War Memorial Foundation.

The additions are a new picnic shelter that seats 300; additional parking; restrooms; an amphitheater with lawn seating for about 3,500; an 18-hole disc golf course; and a smaller shelter for the disc golf course area.

Kluttz said people are keeping an eye on the site daily. Every time she pulls up, she said she sees people rubber-necking, wanting to check it out.

“I think people are already chomping at the bit to get on the site and use it, and I think they’re going to be pleased,” Kluttz said.

The disc golf course will be free on a first-come, first-served basis, but it is not open yet. Anderson said the course is going to be one of the best in the area and will be available for tournaments. It has two tee placements for each hole, one for intermediate players, one for advanced players.

The baskets are not in place yet, but Anderson said several local disc golf clubs are eager to use the facility.

“It’s a very well-designed, well-thought-out course,” Kluttz said. “It is a beautiful course.

The amphitheater borders the Carolina Field of Honor and will be ideal for small to medium-size concerts. It should be able to handle about 3,500 people.

“It’s a very nice venue with lawn seating,” Anderson said. “It will really add to the community.”

Anderson said there will be a process for groups to reserve the amphitheater complex. The fee structure is yet to be finalized.

The new facilities will also add another rentable picnic facility to the park. This is a needed addition, since the picnic shelters are full almost every week, Anderson said.

The additions have been years in the making. They are part of Phase 8 of the Triad Park Master Plan.

Both Forsyth and Guilford counties are paying for the amphitheater and other Phase 8 additions.

Forsyth County is paying its portion with two-thirds bond money set aside for park projects. Forsyth also received a $500,000 grant from the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund to help finance Phase 8 of the plan.

The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners in March selected Hodgin Construction to complete the project for $1.96 million.

FOX 8/OLD DOMINION HOLIDAY CONCERT 2014

The Holiday Concerts sponsored by FOX8 and Old Dominion Freight Line have provided The Salvation Army with food to help feed those in need. Millions of cans of food have been collected since 1987. This is the 27th year for the Greensboro concert, the 25th year for the Winston-Salem concert and the 8th year for the Burlington concert. In total, we have collected 6.7 million cans for families across the Piedmont.

This is the largest and most important food raising event of the year for The Salvation Army. Last year, over 20,000 people where served.

Annually, over 17,000 people attend the concerts. In 2013, we collected over 468,000 cans of food with 30 companies participating in the Holiday Food Drive.

food-driveFor years, the Holiday Concerts have been held at the Greensboro Coliseum, Lawrence Joel Veteran Memorial and in Burlington and are a proven tradition offering quality holiday entertainment. The Concerts invite families to attend an evening of music provided by the Greensboro and Winston Salem Symphony’s. The “cost” to attend is a can of food.

In recent years, the need in the TRIAD has exceeded the cans collections at the concerts. That is why FOX8, Old Dominion Freight Line and The Salvation Army are reaching out to local businesses to participate in an eight week campaign culminating with the Concerts (Winston-Salem: December 13, Greensboro: December 14, Burlington: December 19).
