HanesTowne is being developed by Dobson-based Crown Cos. on 35 acres along South Stratford Road — the former site of a Hanesbrands plant.

Unknown Hinson – Luxuriant Sedans

unknownhinson

8:00 PM Friday Jul 10, 2015

The UNtold Story of Unknown. While singing his own hilariously politically incorrect songs, Unknown Hinson plays guitar in a style incendiary enough to have Satan himself reaching for the antiperspirant. But don’t dismiss him as a novelty act. He’s one hell of a talent and has the music to prove it!

Looking somewhat like Dracula’s nasty little brother who spent some hard years drinking and working as a carnival barker for a second-rate freak show, Unknown Hinson translates that vibe to his style of country and western-tinged psychobilly. The band is now touring nationwide, wowing audiences with outrageous and campy, white-trash persona and freewheeling, sleazy tone.

Hinson’s most recent CD release, “Live and Undead”, melds weepy twang, searing guitar riffs and lyrics that speak of love-gone-bad. Recorded at a sold-out show, an enthusiastic honky tonk crowd sings along with the King on every song. Raucous, theatrical and over-the-top, Unknown Hinson isn’t just for the trailer park set anymore!

Unknown is gaining international notoriety in the 14-34 demographic as the voice of lead character “Early Cuyler” in the popular show from Cartoon Network – “Squidbillies”. The first four seasons were so well-received that an immediate green light was given to future seasons. Check website for dates and time slots.

Unknown Hinson is an international winner in the Independent Music Awards for his alternative Country track “Torture Town” from the album “Target Practice”.

Unknown Hinson is also a featured artist for Reverend Guitars, representing them in many issues of Guitar Player magazine. A signature Unknown Hinson guitar is currently part of Reverend’s celebrity instrument lineup. Full page interviews and photos of Unknown are in March and April 2012 issues of Guitar Player, and on guitarplayer.comwww.reverendguitars.com

Upon his first performance at Rockabilly Revival, an annual festival in Austin, Tx, Rockabilly Magazine named Unknown Hinson as their “Find of the Year” www.rockabillymagazine.com

What is Revived?

In a time when society is trying to convince our youth that life is all about self; self-indulgence, self-centeredness, self-reliance, our desire is to help the youth see that’s its really about surrendering self and relying on Jesus.

In Psalm 119:50 we read “Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles.” We desire to see our youth find comfort in God’s promises.  To renew, recharge, rejuvenate, and rekindle their faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Invite your friends, family, and youth groups to join us for our seventh year of providing this awesome opportunity to reconnect with God through praise, worship, and service.
With all the negative influences our youth face on a daily basis, we feel it is very important to offer our youth as many opportunities as possible to:

  • Grow stronger in their faith
  • Meet and fellowship with other young Christians
  • Hear strong sermons and messages that relate to them
  • Hear testimonials from their peers so they realize that sharing their story can be “cool”
  • Realize that Christian music can be modern, fun, and relevant to them

On Location party set at Dobson farm for The Longest Ride Actors & Background Extras

Foothills Arts Council will host an On Location Celebration at the Olinger Farm on Thursday April 16th  in DOBSON, NC.

ScottBrittOlingerFarm

A number of area residents got their chance to be on the big screen recently while crews were in the area filming for the latest Nicholas Sparks film based on his book “The Longest Ride.”

Olinger Farm

The Foothills Arts Council will be celebrating the upcoming film, which opens April 10, with an on location party April 16 at the Olinger family farm.dobsonlongestrideScenes from the movie, starring Scott Eastwood, were filmed at the farm in Devotion. The farm was restored by Elkin resident Amy Aldridge’s father, the late Dr. Sheff Olinger. Many local residents were extras in the film including Gary and Alexa Maxey; Kennedy, Henry, and Lisa Freeman; Gray, Melinda and Mia Burchette; Scott Ray; Aspen Jackson; and Emma Aldridge.

“The On Location Celebration was the idea of Robin Turner and Lisa Freeman as a way to celebrate the filming in our own backyard,” said arts council Executive Director Leighanne Martin Wright. “With the blessing of Amy Aldridge and her family, the idea blossomed into the party that is sure to be a good time.”

The party also will serve as a fundraiser for the Foothills Arts Council which provides a variety of programming from outdoor festivals to art classes, gallery exhibits and performances showcasing the talent of local actors, Wright said.

Tickets for the party are $25 and include a full BBQ dinner. Skull Camp beer also will be available. Tickets must be purchased in advance at the arts council, located at 129 Church St., Elkin or at Diana’s Bookstore, 222 E. Main St., Elkin.

“As part of our mission to make the arts accessible to all of our community, most of our events are free or have a minimal ticket price,” Wright said. “The money raised from this event will help the arts council tremendously as we operate totally on grants, donations and memberships and provide a vital cultural component to our community,”

The party starts at 6 p.m. on April 16, with the band Face the Music providing live entertainment from the front porch. Organizers are asking that those coming dress for western fun.

“I have asked my daughter to send me her cowboy boots for the night since I don’t own any,” Wright said with a laugh. “Who knows, I may just keep them.”

The farm is located at 362 Grover Cockerham Road, Dobson, on the Mitchell River. A rain date is set for April 19.

“The property is gorgeous and to know a movie was filmed right there is rather fun,” Robin Turner said. “Nothing better than having a party and benefiting art in the process.”

Through the sponsorships of Frank and Jeanette Hendrick, Dr. David Cline DDS, Speedy Chef Restaurant, Edward Jones Investments (Barry Revis and Frank Beals), Parkwood Eye Center, Basin Creek Realty, Animal Ark Veterinary Hospital, Diana’s Bookstore, Lifestore Insurance, The Stereo Shop, Dr. Robert Peterson General Surgery, and State Farm Steve Owings, all the proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Foothills Arts Council to help fund its varied programming.

Jersey Mike’s “Day of Giving”

jerseymikesSub lovers from coast to coast can make a substantial difference today by joining Jersey Mike’s “Day of Giving.”

Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its authentic fresh sliced/fresh grilled subs, is donating 100 percent of sales to more than 120 local charities including schools, hospitals, youth organizations, food banks and more. Always held on the last Wednesday of March, the “Day of Giving,” this year on March 25, is the culmination of Jersey Mike’s 5th Annual March “Month of Giving” fundraising campaign.

The company is committed to raising as much money as possible for these important causes. For added momentum, since March 15, Jersey Mike’s has been running a special Month of Giving commercial, with a tag in each market noting the local charity and inviting the public in to any of its participating locations nationwide to celebrate the “Day of Giving.”

jerseymikes2

“Giving…making a difference in someone’s life” has been the mission of Jersey Mike’s from the beginning. Since 2010, Jersey Mike’s locations have raised more than $10 million for worthy local charities and have distributed more than 1 million free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.

Throughout the month, customers have been invited to visit their local Jersey Mike’s restaurant and donate to that location’s designated charity partner. Last year’s “Month of Giving” initiative raised $2.1 million for 100 different charities nationwide and the company hopes to raise even more this year.

Jersey Mike’s believes that making a sub sandwich and making a difference can be one and the same, a philosophy that has fueled the sub sandwich chain’s popularity. Following its successful recipe of deliberate, well-considered expansion, Jersey Mike’s has more than doubled in size in just three years.

For more information about Jersey Mike’s Month of Giving, please visit: www.jerseymikes.com/mog

Jersey Mike’s, a fast-casual sub sandwich franchise with more than 750 locations open and under development nationwide, has a long history of community involvement and support. Started at the Jersey Shore in 1956, Jersey Mike’s serves authentic East Coast-style subs on fresh baked bread – the same recipe it started with over 50 years ago. The company’s mission is to bring its customers the highest quality, freshest made sub in the industry and give back to the communities in which it operates.
