The Winston-Salem Cycling Classic, a new professional biking event, will take place on June 15 and 16.  This race offers something for everyone.  Amateurs can participate in several rides, including the 80-mile Gran Fondo, which begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 15. The Gran Fondo ride is from Winston-Salem through Yadkin Valley, but there will be two shorter routes available as well.  Whew!

The competition heats up later that afternoon when approximately 120 male and 80 female professional riders take to the streets on a 1.3 mile downtown course that begins and ends on Trade Street in front of IMG College and Sweet Potatoes.  There’s no cost to watch the fast action!  Beginning at 5 p.m., there will be FREE concerts featuring local favorite the Bo Stevens Band, The Connells (get out your best 80s clothes!) and headlining, pop country recording artist Delta Rae.  The Winston-Salem Cycling Classic concludes on Sunday with more downtown races beginning at noon.  For more info or to register for a race, visit http://www.winstonsalemcycling.com

Winston-Salem Greek Festival 2013 – “Opa!”

Winston-Salem Greek Festival 2013 – “Opa!”

On May 17, 18 and 19, the Greek community is inviting everyone to its Annual Greek Festival at the Greek Orthodox Church (435 Keating Drive, off of Country Club Road & Silas Creek Parkway). Here’s what’s on tap for the weekend: plenty of Greek dancing, informative tours of the beautiful church, and shopping at the Agora (Market Place), where you can purchase arts, crafts and other goodies. Speaking of goodies, the most important part of the festival in my opinion, is the F-O-O-D. And lots of it! Think: Gyros, moussaka, pastitsio, souvlaki and my favorite, spanakopita!

The festival hours on Friday and Saturday: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is $1.00. You can also call in take-out orders from the event. Telephone: 765-FOOD (3663). Additional Info: Call 765-7145 or visit http://www.wsgoc.org/greek-festival/
