(Winston-Salem Journal) — The Dixie Classic Farmers Market at the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds will hold a corn-shucking contest and a salsa-recipe contest.

The corn-shucking contest, held in conjunction with Samaritan Ministries, will be at 9 a.m. Saturday. It is open to adults and kids 12 and under.

A cash prize will be awarded to the winning adult and child. Corn shucked will be donated to the soup kitchen at Samaritan Ministries.

The deadline to enter is noon Friday.

The salsa-recipe contest will begin at 9 a.m. Aug. 3. Winners will be announced at 10 a.m.

Winners will receive cash prizes, including $100 for first place, and the Winston-Salem Journal will publish the winning recipes.

The deadline for entries is July 31.

Come out and see the “best of the best” local high school bands. Vendors will be available for you to purchase food.
The Summer Night Lights program for teens ages 13-18 presents “Teen JamFest” on Saturday, July 27 from 7-10 pm at Festival Park, 200 N. Davie St., in downtown Greensboro. Admission is free. Hosted by the City Arts Music Center of Greensboro Parks and Recreation, the concert features two local bands: Lo & Behold on stage from 7-7:40 pm and The Chasin’ Fame from 8-10 pm.

Tour to Tanglewood training ride – Clemmons Bike Shop

  • Local Bike Shops will hold training rides for anyone interested in the Bike MS: Tour to Tanglewood.  The hosting bike shop will provide a short and long option at each ride with a marked route, cue sheet, rest stops and SAG.  Yes, these rides are FREE!
    Check in starts at 7am, and the ride starts at 8am.

    Mileage options: 10, 27, 35 and 50

    We will also be providing Chick-fil-A Chick-n-Minis breakfast, reststops / sag support, free on site post ride massages from My Massage of Clemmons and of course everything in the store will be on sale.
